Abstract
Figured effects are produced on cr<\>zepe fabrics containing overtwisted threads and threads capable of parchmentization by local treatment with swelling agents having a parchmentizing action on the treated parts followed by the usual processing treatments. The fabric may be treated, after reserving the parts it is not desired to parchmentize, either before the shrinking of the fabric to produce the cr<\>zepe effect or after such shrinking, the parchmentizing treatment being effected while the fabric is under tension. The parchmentizing agents may be such as concentrated inorganic acids, or cellulose dissolving salts, sulphuric acid, e.g. of 50 DEG B<\>ae. being preferably employed. The materials treated may be of vegetable fibres, regenerated cellulose or animal fibres. Colour effects are produced on dyeing the fabrics owing to the special affinity of the parchmentized portions for dyes. Dyes which become fixed in the fabric may be incorporated with the reserve in the reserving process and colour-discharge effects may be produced on previously dyed fabrics by adding colour-discharging substances to the reserve.
