Description

Method of making patterned fabrics It is known by means of swelling agents with a parchment effect on cellulose-based fabrics create stiffened, more or less transparent effects. If you turn this Processes on fabrics in which thicker yarns are used for patterning purposes, z. B. threads, woven in strips or squares, or by embroidery If denser parts have been formed in the form of figures, the patterned ones are preserved Make an unsightly look; they become hard and brittle and cause one too great stiffness of the whole tissue surface.

It has now been found that these evils can be avoided if the process of patent 692 689 is used to produce fabrics which, on the one hand, are humid Yarns made from cellulose fibers and, on the other hand, insensitive to swelling agents; d. H. raw yarns made of cellulose fibers, still afflicted with the natural incrustations contain. It turned out that the last-mentioned yarns are not only from not shrinking, but also by swelling agents with a parchment effect to be influenced. For example, you make a muslin fabric, its base made of soaked cotton yarns and woven-in strips of coarse, raw cotton yarns consists; sulfuric acid of 53'B6 is allowed to act on this tissue for 8 seconds, washes out the acid, finitely mercerises caustic soda and bleaches. One receives on this way a translucent fabric that basically has its previously known properties shows, but is also permeated by striped effects that have remained soft, which is still opaque from the stand out through translucent grounds.

The solutions customary for parchment are used as swelling agents of inorganic acids, alkalis or salts, e.g. B. of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, Mixed acid, deep-frozen sodium hydroxide solution (based on that known from patent 340824 Process), zinc chloride, calcium rhodanide or copper oxide ammonia.

The fabrics parchmented according to the present process can, if necessary, still be treated to the originally raw or against Swelling agent insensitive to yarns for further finishing purposes, for example to make them receptive to dyes. Raw yarns are used any bleaching or digestion process is suitable for this purpose. When using yarns made insensitive one can in the sense of an unlocking the condition of the reserving pretreatment by dissolving or saponifying effects Revoke funds again. On the in any way subsequently open-minded, Originally parchmented fabrics can be shrunk by treating them with acting Swelling agents produce crepe-like effects by the originally reserved yarns are now shrinking and on the parchmented Cause various types of corrugations in tissue parts.

Manifold effects can be achieved if, in this process, the parchment agent is allowed to act on the fabric only locally by means of direct imprint or reserve pressure. The patterned effects produced in this way can still be modified by subsequently adding shrinking & active swelling agents to the fabric again, e.g. B. with sodium hydroxide solution treated, whereby crepe-like patterns are obtained. Finally, the combination of simultaneous or successive local effects of parchment and shrinking agents is possible, the patterns being superimposed or next to one another and further modifications being achieved by a subsequent action of a shrinking agent extending over the entire fabric. These finishing effects can be enhanced in any imaginable way by dyeing or color printing: depending on the choice of the dyes used, various shades of the corresponding color tones arise as a result of the differently influenced fibers. EXAMPLE A fabric consisting of base yarns made of moistened cotton and fancy yarns in weft and warp made of raw cotton yarns, which form a window-shaped pattern below them, is parchmented with sulfuric acid of 5 ° B6 at 15 ° C. for 12 seconds, washed and then bleached . The fabric is then either subjected to mercerization under tension with sodium hydroxide solution of 3o B @ for 30 seconds at room temperature or immersed in sodium hydroxide solution of 30 ° B6 for 3 minutes without tension. In both cases, hot water is used for leaching, acidification and acidification. wash and dry on the stenter. In the first case a smooth, translucent fabric with unchanged effect threads is obtained, in the second case a translucent fabric with bubble crepe decorations, the shape of which is determined by the arrangement of the shrunk effect threads.
