Abstract
In the production of cr<\>zepe-like textile fabrics, a fabric comprising shrinkable threads or thread parts of untreated cellulose acetate silk, and unshrinkable threads or thread parts either of cellulose acetate silk protected by treatment with a reserve or of relatively non-shrinkable threads of another kind, is treated with hydrochloric acid of 23-26 per cent as shrinking agent. The threads are preferably not or only slightly twisted. Suitable reserves are phenols, tannin or catechol, e.g. in aqueous solution with a small quantity of swelling agent for the cellulose acetate such as formic acid, or sulphonated water-soluble synthetic resins, e.g. phenol-aldehyde resins, e.g. as emulsions or suspensions. Natural or synthetic resins, waxes, or paraffins, e.g. a solution of colophony in xylene may also be used. The thread or fabric treated with the reserve may be steamed to ensure fixing. Threads treated thus may be suitably dressed, and if desired dyed for identification before weaving with an untreated thread. Preferably the fabric contains 5-10 unshrinkable threads for about 3-8 shrinkable threads. Treatment of threads with the reserve may be effected by dipping hanks partially or wholly into the reserve. Fabrics may be immersed in a bath or printed, e.g. locally with the reserve. Shrinkage is preferably effected at 18-20 DEG C., and may be 10-50 per cent. p The reserves may be removed with alkali or soap lye when neutralizing after shrinkage. Drying of piece goods is effected in loose condition on formers tables or moving belts. Stretching is to be avoided. Threads may be incompletely protected against shrinkage in parts and the degree of protection may vary in different parts of the thread. In place of some or all of the protected acetate threads, threads of silk, wool, cotton, linen, or cellulose artificial silk may be used. A variety of effects such as cloqu<\>ae, fa<\>cconnet or the like may be produced by suitable combinations of treated and untreated threads in the fabric. Shrinkable and unshrinkable threads may be twisted together to make fabrics showing cracknel effects. Mixed fabrics of shrinkable and non-shrinkable threads may be printed locally with a reserve before shrinking. Specification 413,150, (as open to inspection under Sect. 91), is referred to.
