Abstract

516,624. Treating textiles with liquids. WALLACH, R. June 29, 1938, No. 19327. [Class 15 (ii)] Jute textiles having loose nap fibres are treated so as to bind the nap fibres by applying to the surface of the textiles an aqueous dispersion of a cellulose compound having a pH value of less than 8, and coagulating the cellulose compound. The dispersion may be neutral, or acid, or slightly alkaline. Yarns, threads, cordage, or fabrics made of jute may be treated. The treated textiles may be used for making sacks, bags, packages, or container linings. The cellulose compound may be an alkyl ether or hydroxy-alkyl ether of cellulose soluble in water or very dilute aqueous alkali. It may be. a cellulose ethercarboxylic acid, or a cellulose benzyl sulphonate. Solutions of cellulose in zinc chloride, alkali thiocyanates, alkali metal perchlorates, or in acids such as sulphuric acid may be used. In an example, jute fabric is passed through a solution of a cellulose ether in water. It is squeezed and then passed into hot water to coagulate the cellulose ether. The cellulosic solution may contain fillers, pigments, sizes, wetting agents, softeners, fireproofing agents, or other additions. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 943/94, [Class 2], 274,940, 302,115, [both in Class 42 (i)], 350,409 and 359,618.
