Abstract

For the manufacture of artificial wool, cotton &c. consisting essentially of casein, there is used the product obtained by acid coagulation of milk at a pH value less than 4,5. In an example, skimmed milk is coagulated by the addition of sulphuric acid to give a pH value of 2,9-3,0. Casein produced by acid coagulation at lower acidities may be improved by treatment with acid of pH 4,5 or lower. The casein may be used alone or mixed with viscose for the production of artificial fibres. Specification 483,731 is referred to.
