Abstract

In the production of artificial filaments or threads from aqueous cellulose solutions, for example viscose, a step of dehydration of the filaments &c. by evaporation of the water therefrom is included intermediately between the stages of coagulation and regeneration. The dehydration is suitably carried out by passing the coagulated filaments, if desired in a state of tension, through a hot gas, for example air at 100 DEG C., or a hot anhydrous liquid such as Vaseline oil at about 120 DEG C. When aqueous baths are employed to produce the initial coagulation, these may be warmed in order to accelerate the subsequent dehydration.
