Abstract

PURPOSE: An aqueous spinning dope containing polyvinyl alcohol and thermally reactive urethane is wet spun using a coagulation bath of aqueous salt with a specific pH to produce title binder with industrial advantage by no use of lower alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: (A) Polyvinyl alcohol and (B) a thermally reactive urethane are mixed preferably at a weight ratio of 85/15W40/60 to form an aqueous dispersion. The dispersion is used as the spinning dope and wet spun using a coagulation bath of aqueous salt such as saturated sodium sulfate aqueous solution with a pH 3W7 to produce the objective fibrous binder.
EFFECT: Even when spinning and wet-heat treatment are done at elevated temperatures, the thermally reactive urethane is inactive. Further, the high coagulation speed increases the productivity and the resulting fibers are strong.
