Abstract

PURPOSE: A water-soluble and polyhydric alcohol is added to a solution of cellulose ester and wet or dry spinning is carried out using the resulting solution and a specific solution as the core ingredient to produce hollow fiber of permselective thin film with high roundness, strength and flux at a high speed by stable operation.
CONSTITUTION: A cellulose ester is dissolved in an organic solvent, to which 10W 20wt%, based on the cellulose ester, of a water-soluble and polyhydric alcohol is added. The resulting dope is linearly extruded out of annular slits and simultaneously either of a solvent for cellulose and/or swelling agent or an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble salt that is phase-separable from the above organic solvent is introduced into the inside of the hollow fibers. No gelation occurs while the fibers run in the air and so the extruded fiber are very good at fiber-forming and drafting properties and can be stably spun enen at high speeds. The fibers produced has high roundness, strength and elongation at break, and flux, being suitably used as thin films for separation and permeation.
