Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title hollow fibers having improved selective permeability and water permeability as hollow fiber membranes, and a high tensile strength in use, by using a liquid consisting mainly of an ester of a fatty acid as a core material in wet spinning.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of cellulose acetate having an acetyl value of 45W60% in an organic solvent is extruded from an annular slit of an outer pipe of a double- pipe spinneret, and a liquid consisting mainly of an ester of a fatty acid is fed from the inner pipe of the spinneret as a core material. The coagulating solution is preferably an aqueous solution comprising 5W60 wt.% of a solvent for the acetate. The resulting fibers are washed with hot water to give hollow fibers having a suitable permeability usable for ultrafiltration, uniform and thin walls, and a high separation efficiency free from collapsed hollow parts, with high productivity.
