Abstract
530,020. Fuel-injection valves. TABB, W. T., and PURDY, E. M. June 14, 1939, No. 17408. [Class 7 (iii)] An injection valve 43, opened by the pressure of the fuel admitted at 20, 18 and closed by spring discs 26 against a seat 2c formed adjacent an enlargement 2a in the bore of the nozzle, has a cylindrical extension 42 formed with flats 47 and separated by a V-groove 46 from a conical extension 42 which fits the bore 2a and if formed with tapering flats 48, so that as the valve opens, a gradually increasing passage for the fuel is provided around these extensions. The opening of the valve is limited by a spring plate 34, with which engages a sleeve 24a extending from a nut 28 holding the spring 26. In a modification the V-groove 46 is omitted, and in a further form the flats 47, 48 are also omitted. Fig. 7 shows another form in which the nozzle bore 60 is uniform, except for an enlargement at 61 just below the valve seat 63, the valve extension 68 being formed with flats 69, a groove 70, conical portion 71, and cylindrical end 72 fitting the bore.
