524,955. Cylinders and valves of two-stroke engines. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN. Feb. 10, 1939, No. 4489. Convention date, Feb. 24, 1938. [Classes 7 (ii), 7 (iii) and 7 (vi)] In a two-stroke engine cylinder having uniflow scavenging, suction-actuated admission valves 3, which are supplied through an annular chamber 30, are arranged around a combustion chamber 11 which is wider than the bore so that the charge is deflected by the walls 12 towards the cylinder axis. These walls may be conical, as shown, curved, or cylindrical; in the last-mentioned arrangement the deflection is effected by the face of the cylinder block. Recesses 14 may be provided for mounting the valves, which may be made of a light material, such as "Duralumin" (Registered Trade Mark) ; they are actuated against light springs 4, stops 20 being provided. Compressed charge is admitted by a tangential passage 6 so as to whirl round the chamber 30. After the engine has started, this supply may be cut off and charge induced through a further passage 24 by outflow of exhaust through ports 9, the height of which may be less than 10 per cent. of the piston stroke. A sparking plug 7 or a liquid fuel injection device is mounted in a cavity 10 which may be removable. Two annular chambers 16, 17 are connected with the cooling-water circuit by passages 18, 19 located on opposite sides of the cylinder.
