Abstract
524,351. Electric water heaters. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., DAVIS, P. W., and KIRBY, J. Jan. 27, 1939, No. 2948. [Class 39 (iii)] A water vessel 5 with a doomed top 6 is mounted on a plate 7 carrying a horizontal electric heating element 17, water inlet 10 and water outlet 11. The inlet 10 is covered by a baffle 12 to distribute the water below the heater 17, and an extension 13 of the outlet pipe terminates in a baffle 14 near the top of the vessel 5. The plate 7 also carries a thermostat, not shown, arranged within an upwardly projecting tube. The element 17 is of sheathed form and is bent into a circular loop, across which the two ends extend diametrally and are then bent downwards to terminals 19. The apparatus is enclosed in a lagged casing 20. In a modification, Fig. 4, not shown, the inlet pipe extends upwards to the top of the vessel 5, and water then passes downwards through a surrounding tube closed at the top and opening at the bottom just above the element 17. The hot water zone is remote from the inlet of the draw off pipe, by which scaling of the latter is avoided.
