Abstract

659,276. Electric water heaters. ATTERBY, H. March 22, 1949, No. 7707. [Class 39(iii)] An electric water heater e.g. a tea urn, has oil interposed between the heating elements A-D and the water, there being a thermostat T controlling the heating elements immersed in the oil. In the embodiment shown a false bottom F defines a compartment at the bottom of the urn for the oil, the heating elements A ... D being disposed externally of the oil compartment. A shield X surrounding the draw-off tap G ensures that the urn is never wholly emptied of hot water. The elements A ... D may be themselves immersed in the oil compartment, or a tube containing oil in which are immersed the heating elements and the thermostat may protrude into the urn from the top or sides, see Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). The arrangement prevents formation of scale on the heating elements.
