Abstract

522,317. Cathode-ray tubes. KLEMPERER, O. Dec. 10, 1938, No. 36048. [Class 39 (i)] The modulating electrode G and anode A of an electron gun have plane diaphragms G<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>1</SP> with substantially equal apertures and disposed so that the spacing between the emitting surface of the cathode C and the further surface of the diaphragm G lies within a range between 8 and 2.5 the radius of the apertures, while the spacing between the adjacent surfaces of the diaphragms lies between .9 and 2.0 the radius of the apertures. In the arrangement shown, these spacings are 1.2 and .9 respectively of the radius r, of the aperture, which in a specific example is 0.05 inches in diameter. The thickness of the material of the anode and modulating electrodes may vary between .3r and r. Preferably the spacing between the cathode and modulating electrode does not exceed 1.4 the spacing between the modulating electrode and anode. Specification 494,791 is referred to.
