518,053. Portable linkage jacks. MITCHELL, A., and ORMSBY, B. H. Sept. 30, 1938, No. 28445. [Class 78 (iii)] A lifting and conveying device comprises a wheeled jack, fitted with a gallows frame for engaging a load. The wheeled toggle-jack A of known construction carries a crutch-supporting' sleeve E which normally carries a detachable crutch member for engaging an axle or other part of a motor vehicle. As shown, this crutch has been removed and replaced by the post G of the gallows frame. The load J, for example a motor car engine,is connected to the arm G<2> of the gallows by a rope or chain J<1>, and the gallows is then raised bodily by operating the toggle linkage F by the handle D. The raised load can be transported by the wheeled base of the jack. The lower end of the post preferably is threaded and nuts K, K<2> are used to fix a hooked strengthening-member K<1>.
