429,202. Garage hoists. HARPER, R. 0., 21, Bootle Street, Manchester. Jan. 4, 1934, No. 282. [Class 78 (iii)] Comprises a combination of parts forming a portable garage vehicle lift. Non-rotatable screw-threaded uprights adapted to rest on the floor during lifting, are carried by an apparatus which can be moved from place to place over the floor. Vertical sleeves slide on the screws and guide the load platform which is connected to nuts climbing up the screws, so as to afford uninterrupted access to the vehicle from beneath the platform. In the form shown four corner posts are used on which the skeleton platform is raised and lowered, the whole of the operating-gear being carried on the platform, so that the space below the latter is entirely unobstructed. Four inverted channel-irons a, a<1>, Fig. 3, are connected to form a skeleton frame which carries the usual wheel tracks b. Projecting portions of the members a<1> are perforated to pass over the four ground-engaging non- rotatable screwed shafts d, Figs. 3 and 6. A nut f, clamped to the member a<1> by a plate f<4>, carries two chain wheels, of which f<5> is driven from the motor h or crank handle h<8> while f<2> transmits the rotation to all the other nuts through the medium of the endless chain g. The nuts, when rotated, climb up the fixed screws, carrying the platform vehicle, and all the driving-gear with them. A slotted sleeve e, which houses the screw and may serve to introduce lubricant, is fitted round the nut and is fixed to a flange e<1> which is bolted to the member a<1>. A collar e2 fixed to the top of the screw is guided in the sleeve e and has a projection engaging the slot e3 in the sleeve to prevent the screws rotating. An outer collar e<4> prevents deformation of the tube e by the projection. Limit switches may stop the motor at both ends of the run of the platform. The flexible power leads for supplying the motor are carried by an arm pivoted to the upper end of the nearest sleeve e and further supported in an upraised position by connection to some external point.
