Abstract

451,563. Load handling machines. HANDLEY, J. D., (trading as HANDLEY & CO., J. D.), Hilbre Street, Liverpool. Dec. 11, 1935, No. 34282. [Class 78 (iii)] A hoist or lift of the type employed in garages for raising motor vehicles off the ground for facilitating servicing, is provided with a lighting system for illuminating the underside of the vehicle. A hoist, Fig. 1, with runway platforms 1 and upstanding flanges 2 are carried by a cross girder structure 3 mounted on a ram 4. Distributed along and under the platforms 1 and support 3 is a series of swivelling lamp brackets 5 carrying lamps 10, Fig. 3. The brackets consist of tubular elbow pieces 6 threaded and socketed on to a stem of a T-shaped conduit connector frictionally gripped by a spring 16. At the other end of the elbow piece 6 is an annular cup 9 (or a lamp 10) enclosed in a glass sleeve 11 to prevent contamination and breakage. The wiring connected in parallel may be of low voltage. The wiring system 19, Fig. 1, is run to a pair of plug-in sockets 19. The lamps may, in a modification, be housed in pouch-like dwellings along the inside of the platform flange 2. ,
