Abstract

1,011,933. Lifting jacks. BRITOOL Ltd. July 31, 1964 [July 1, 1963], No. 25982/63. Heading B8J. A lifting jack comprises an inner leg 10 pivoted at 11 to two outer legs 12, 13 connected by a ground-engaging supporting base member 14. At the upper ends of the legs a screw 15 is rotatably mounted in a bearing block pivotally mounted between the outer legs 12, 13. The other end of the screw 15 is threaded through a nut 17 pivotally mounted on the inner leg 10. At the upper end of the inner leg 10 an inverted U-shaped load-engaging bracket 18 is mounted. To lift a car (not shown) the bracket 18 is located below a lifting point and the screw 15 rotated by an operating member 20 until the bracket 18 engages the car. When the weight of the car is on the bracket 18, the base 14 does not move on further rotation of the screw 15 to raise the car: the end of the inner leg 10 which is on the ground being drawn towards the base 14. The operating member 20 may be hexagonal to receive a wheel brace.
