Abstract

1396043 Lifting jacks F W BROWN 29 Jan 1974 [7 Feb 1973] 6026/73 Heading B8J A lifting jack comprises a frame 1, a lifting arm 3 pivotally mounted on the frame 1 and adapted to bear a load on the free end thereof, hydraulic means for raising and lowering the lifting arm 3, and a supporting member 4 which is pivotally mounted on the frame 1 for pivotal movement to and from a supporting position in which it can support the lifting arm 3, the free end of the supporting member being engageable in at least one groove 6 in the lifting arm 3 when the supporting member is in the supporting position. As shown, the supporting member 4 is biased by a spring 7 into engagement with the lifting arm. Alternatively the supporting member may be pivoted into position by a detachable handle (not shown) used for raising the arm 3 by a manual pumping action.
