Abstract

261,815. Hall, T. July 25, 1925. Screw-and-nut platform load-handling appliances; jacks. -A raising and traversing gear for derailed trucks and other heavy objects comprises a pair of rails a detachably connected by end pieces b carrying a longitudinal screw c. One or more carriages e<2> provided with rollers e<3> run on the rails, and the standards of screw jacks f fit in recesses in the carriages and are secured thereto by a screw stud device f<3>. Brackets c are secured underneath the carriages and are slotted to engage the screw c. The brackets engage and hold against rotation nuts c<1> on the screw and allow the carriages to be lifted, the nuts to be rapidly spun into required positions and the carriages then re-engaged with the nuts. In operation the appliance is placed underneath the end of a derailed truck, and by means of a ratchet spanner d &c. the screw is rotated until the jacks are under a suitable part of the truck. The truck is then raised by means of the jacks and by further manipulation of the screw is aligned with the track and then lowered.
