Abstract
517,561. Roller mills. COLUMBIA RIBBON & CARBON MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and DIXON, J. F. E. May 24, 1939, No. 15423. [Class 59] A mill for grinding inks, paints &c. of the type comprising three or more rolls 1 arranged horizontally and with contiguous faces, has plates 3 held firmly against the ends of the first two rolls by spring means, such means serving to maintain constant wiping contact between the plates and the roll ends. The plates seal the V-shaped gap between the rolls and thus form a hopper for the ink &c. As shown in Fig. 3, the side plates 3 are slidable along a bolt 4 and are pressed against the ends of the rolls by a spring 10. The plates 3 are recessed at 11 adjoining the periphery of the rolls, the recesses being tapered in the direction of rotation of the rolls and on their lower side toward the rolls. Alternatively, the recess may be of uniform depth in the direction of rotation of the rolls and contain a plate 13, Fig. 5, pressed into contact with the roll by a spring 14.
