Abstract
468,610. Roller and roller-and-breast mills. SONSTHAGEN, A. Jan. 10, 1936, No. 35073. Divided out of 468,457. [Class 59] Means for reducing the angle of the surfaces at the entrant side of the nip independently of the diameter of the rollers is provided by a member 4, 5 which forms with the rollers a pocket P having restricted entrances P<1>, P<2> in which the material is subjected to a wedging action. As shown in Fig. 1 the nip between the rollers a, b, is made smaller by a thin blade 1 riveted to plates 4, 5 shaped to provide a gradually decreasing width toward the nip. The blade may project into the nip below the centre line joining the two rollers and openings may be made through the blade. Scrapers 13 and grinding bars 8, 11 may co-operate with the rollers. In Fig. 2 the blade 1 is placed below the nip in a housing 7 the rolls i, j being revolved in a direction opposite to that shown in Fig. 1. The grinding bar 8 may be moved to control the gap at a<1> and b<2> or the gap bl may be controlled by moving the roller i against an adjustable stop 10. A second bar 11 may be provided so that one bar may be set for coarse grinding and the other for fine grinding. Specification 468,457 is referred to.
