Abstract
500,014. Typewriters &c. OLIVETTI & CO. SOC. ANON., C. April 13, 1938, No. 11435. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1937. [Class 100 (iv)] Paper - supports.-A disc-platen having its axis parallel to the printing line of a tapeprinting typewriter or telegraph is mounted on a fixed shaft and is rotated and axially oscillated to distribute wear by means including a grooved pulley on the disc-platen, and a driving-shaft arranged parallel to the fixed shaft. The platen-roller 4 shown in the Figure, is mounted freely on a fixed shaft or rod 5 and is provided with a grooved pulley 14 co-operating with an inclined disc 12 on a shaft 7 which is driven step-by-step by gearing 15, 16 and is provided with a leather sleeve 18 or the like engaging the platen-roller. To maintain engagement, the shaft 5 is free at one end and is connected to a spring 10. The arrangement causes the platen-roller to .rotate step-by-step and oscillate transversely, wear being thereby distributed. The sleeve 18 may be omitted, the disc 12 then serving to rotate as well as oscillate the platen-roller. The relative diameters of platen-roller, sleeve, and disc are such that the whole surface of the platen roller is employed.
