Abstract

373,617. Disc mills ; conical mills. HAMBLIN, W. G., 16, Overndale Road, Fishponds, Bristol. Feb. 21, 1931, No. 5494. [Class 59.] In a mill having a plain flat or conical lower grinding member, the coacting upper grinding member is formed of a single continuous band which is waved, serrated, or recessed at one or both sides which provides a continuous width of grinding face entirely around the band so that the material to be ground can only pass to the delivery side by traversing under a thickness of flat or conical grinding surface of the upper grinding member. A rotary flat or conical ring 2, Fig. 1, contacts with a waved, stationary ring 3 provided with recesses 4, Fig. 2, communicating with the hopper 1. The outside of the grinding ring may be recessed at 5 so that the grinding surface of the stationary ring is of zig-zag formation and recesses 7 may be provided in the face of the grinding surface to assist in the grinding action. A stationary mixing arm 8 may be provided loosely engaging the driving shaft 9 and one of the recesses 4, and vanes 12 may be provided to assist the feed to the grinding band. The walls of the notches 5 form scrapers which eject the material to the usual edge scrapers. The grinding surfaces may have an orbital movement and either'of the grinding members may be movable or stationary or both may be rotated but at different speeds and more than one grinding ring may be used.
