Abstract

1,011,866. Apparatus for dispensing cracker dust. T. & T. VICARS Ltd. May 13, 1964 [May 28, 1963], No. 21194/63. Heading A2A. Apparatus for dispensing cracker dust, i.e. a mixture of fat and flour, at a constant rate, on to a sheet of dough 34 being conveyed, on a travelling web 36, to the laminating operation during the manufacture of cream crackers, comprises a hopper 10 holding cracker dust, and a pair of parallel, substantially horizontal rollers 12 and 14, which are rotated, as by gears 34 and 36, and form the bottom of the hopper, so that the gap 16 between them acts as a dispensing orifice. One of the rollers, e.g. roller 12, is preferably movable, to and fro, relative to the other, so that the width of the gap 16 can be varied. A scraper 26 removes adhering cracker dust from the roller 14 on to the roller 12, and another scraper 28 removes adhering cracker dust from the roller 12 on to a rapidly rotating rotor 30, which breaks up any caked or sheeted cracker dust and throws it against a plate 32 which deflects the cracker dust on to the sheet of dough 34.
