[Class 59] A combination mill comprises a roll and breast bar and a second roll to co-operate with the first and is arranged such that it may be used alternatively as a single roll mill with breast bar or as a two-roll mill. As shown, the mill comprises a roller 5 and breast bar 11 supplied by a hopper 10, the cap securing the bearing of the roller being removed and replaced by standards 2 formed with guideways to receive movable bearings 3 of a roller 4. The cap from the bearings of the roller 5 may be placed over the bearings of the roller 4 and be provided with a screwed spindle 7 for adjusting the bearing. Another hopper 9 at the back of the mill is adapted to supply liquid to the nip of the rollers. Check plates on the sides of the hoppers fit into the nip of the rolls and each of the sides 15, 17 are provided with slidable gates to regulate the opening between the roll and hopper. The upper roll is driven by chain 20 from the lower roll gear-box. When used as a roller-and-breast mill the roller 4 is raised and the material from the hopper 10 or 9 is ground between the bar 11 and roll 5 and is collected by a scraper below the bar. When the mill is used as a two-roll grinder the gate 17 is raised and the material from the hopper 9 is carried through the nip of the rolls into the hopper 10 and thence through the breast bar.
