Abstract
513,773. Alloys. SERI HOLDING SOC. ANON. Dec. 4, 1937, No. 26811. Convention date. June 30. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Copper-beryllium alloys, suitable for springs, bearings and other articles, and containing 1.3-2.6 per cent. of beryllium, contain also either 0.2-0.5 per cent. of vanadium, or up to 1 per cent. of tungsten, or 0.3-2.5 per cent. of manganese, or up to 2 per cent. of chromium, or up to 0.5 per cent. of titanium, with or without up to 4 per cent. of iron, and are subjected to the usual treatments of quenching and reprecipitation of the hardening constituent. A suitable heat treatment is heating at 765-795‹C. for 15-20 minutes, followed by reprecipitation treatment, which may be followed by magnetic or electric treatment, e.g., with supersonic waves. In an example, a copper alloy containing 2.15 per cent. of beryllium, 0.21 per cent. of vanadium, and 0.21 per cent. of iron is heated at 795‹C., quenched in water, annealed at 300‹C. for one hour, rapidly cooled, and re-annealed at 290‹C. for 5 hours. Specifications 382,066, 385,652, 390,740, German Specification 612,322 and U.S.A. Specification 2,030,921 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the subject-matter or Specifications 514,593, 514,594 and 514,595. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
