Abstract
512,558. Yarns. BRANDWOOD, J. Dec. 18, 1937, No. 31817. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group IV] Yarn is produced from a slubbing or roving without the usual spinning operation by impregnating the fibres of the roving or slubbing with a weak solution or dispersion of rubber, rubber latex, or a synthetic resin, cleaning all liquid or dispersion from the interstices between the fibres by means of a blast of compressed gas, and then drying. The roving or slubbing should have only two or three turns per inch of carrier twist therein and it may be of cotton, jute, flax or other discontinuous textile fibres or mixtures of these. Before drying, the yarn produced may have imparted to it a few additional turns per inch of twist in the direction of the carrier twist. According to the Provisional Specification, a roving of artificial staple fibre may be treated and the impregnation may be effected with a dispersion of balata or gutta percha or with a solution of regenerated rubber or synthetic rubber.
