[Class 120 (iii)] A yarn or cord for use in the casing of pneumatic tyres comprises a number of twisted high tenacity staple rayon yarns in which the fibres of the cord are compacted and mutually interlocked by simultaneous stretching and twisting to prevent relative slipping of the fibres; the twist imparted to the cord may be sufficiently in excess of that desired in the twisted cord to compensate for the twist removed by the stretching. A number of yarns may be twisted together to form strands while stretching the strands to effect a permanent elongation and a number of such strands may then be twisted together to form the cord while stretching the cord. Small amounts of cotton or other fibres may be mixed with the staple rayon fibre. Specification 424,767 and U.S.A. Specification 2,075,777 are referred to.
