Abstract
631,428. Belt gearing. DAYTON RUBBER CO. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 22070. Convention date, March 8, 1943. [Class 80 (i)] A V-type driving belt of rubber material comprises a tension section 16, a neutral section 17 with reinforcing cords 18, and a compression section 19. These three sections are covered by a fabric wrapping 20 and a helically wound wire 21 embedded in a final outer layer 22 of rubber. In the manufacture the belt is built up with the three sections, the wrapping 20, and the wire 21, and then subjected to vulcanisation under pressure so that the rubber exudes through the wrapping 20 to form the outer layer. More than a single strand of wire 21 may be used and the cords 18 may be of cotton, rayon or glass, or may be replaced by strands of wire or cable. The various sections of the belt may be of rubber composition and include a fibre re-inforcement.
