Abstract

296,833. Watson, J. June 17, 1927. Yarns and threads.- A composite thread used for reinforcing pneumatic tyres, hose pipes, driving belts, &c. is composed of wire and indiarubber, the wire being disposed in the form of a series of coarse-pitched continuous coils and the rubber associated therewith so that it is put into compression by the coils when the cord is subjected to tension. In one form, Fig. 4, the rubber A constitutes a core around which the wire B is wound, the coils of the wire being either spaced apart as shown or disposed close together. In another form, Fig. 6, the rubber D forms a casing for each of the wires B or strands forming the cord, the covered strands being laid with a coarse pitch.
