583,228. Yarns or cords. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Feb. 25, 1944, No. 3536. Convention date, April 21, 1943. Drawings to Specification. [Class 120 (iii)] A cotton plied yarn is formed of two or more single yarns twisted together with a ply twist having a twist multiplier of seven or more, though preferably not exceeding 11, and has the twist of each single yarn as manufactured and also as it rests in the finished plied yarn substantially the same and in a direction opposite to the twist of the plied yarn. Each single yarn as it rests in the finished plied yarn preferably has a twist multiplier of three or more, with seven as the preferred upper limit. The method of plying, by means of a machine for making rope, such as that described in U.S.A. Specification 134,050 of 1872, is of a kind to alllow a substantial retention of the manufacturing twist of the single yarns, and also their cylindrical cross-section, in the plied yarn. The cotton count of the single yarns is preferably of the order of three.
