Abstract
510,617. Alloys. PUTZ, P., and HILGER, A. Feb. 7, 1938, No. 3835. Convention date, Feb. 9, 1937. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] High speed steel hardened by quenching from about 1,200-1,300‹C. with or without reheating to say 560-600‹C. contains iron with 1-2 per cent. of carbon, 0.5-7.5 per cent. of tungsten, 3-10 per cent. of chromium, 2.5-10 per cent. of vanadium. The tungsten may be omitted, in which case the lower limit of chromium is 4 per cent. and of vanadium 5 per cent. The following may also be present; one or more of titanium, tantalum, zirconium, uranium, beryllium in total amount of 0.1-3 per cent., up to 3 per cent. of molybdenum, up to 20 per cent. of cobalt.
