Abstract
538,104. Alloys. INLAND STEEL CO. March 1, 1940, No. 3849. Convention date, Nov. 10, 1939, [Class 82 (i)] Non-austenitic stainless steels containing up to 1À7 per cent. of carbon and 8-30 per cent. of chromium contain also 0À03-0À478 per cent. of lead in a state of dispersion throughout the steel, the products being stated to have improved machinability. There may also be present 0.05- 0À15 per cent. of sulphur, selenium or tellurium, 0À02-0À15 per cent. of phosphorus, up to 4 per cent. of one or more of the elements copper, molybdenum, tungsten, aluminium, silicon. titanium, vanadium, zirconium, cobalt, and niobium, up to 3 per cent. of one or both of the metals nickel and manganese, and up to 0À15 per cent. of nitrogen. The lead may be added by the methods described in Specifications 520,024 and 520,227.
