Abstract

563,571. Alloy steels. UDDEHOLMS AKTIEBOLAG. Feb. 12, 1943, No. 2380. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1942. [Class 82 (i)] Relates to increasing the resistance to corrosion in the manufacture of common types of stainless steel containing chromium, without cobalt or nickel or containing up to 15 per cent nickel, and 68-88 per cent iron, and nitrogen not exceeding that normally present in steel as an unintentional impurity. The increased resistance to corrosion is obtained by such an addition of antimony that the finished steel will contain 0.02-0.5 per cent thereof. The addition may be made to a steel of the following composition, viz. : 0.04-1.5 per cent carbon, 8-25 per cent chromium, 0-15 per cent nickel, 0.15-15 per cent manganese, 0-2 per cent molybdenum, 0-2 per cent tungsten, the combined contents of chromium, nickel, manganese, molybdenum, and tungsten not exceeding 30 per cent. The steels may also contain up to 1 per cent of one or more of the following elements, viz. : aluminium arsenic, copper, niobium, tantalum, titanium, vanadium and zirconium, the combined contents of these elements not exceeding 2 per cent. Specifications 440,788, 461,552 and 504,224 are referred to.
