270,640. Kropf, A. May 10, 1926, [Convention date]. Addition to 264,528. Alloys.-The alloys of high melting point described in the parent Specification are modified by replacing the molybdenum wholly by tantalum, the products containing 5-80 per cent of tantalum and 0.8-5 per cent of carbon. Up to a total of 25 per cent of one or more of the following elements may be present : vanadium, uranium, titanium, zirconium, silicon, cobalt, chromium, nickel, iron, and manganese; or by starting with an alloy of chromium and tantalum and adding tungsten carbide thereto, the product may contain up to 40 per cent of chromium. In some cases the charge may include oxides of some form of the metals which. are reduced in the presence of excess of carbon.
