Abstract
504,224. Alloys; heat - treatment. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS AKTIEBOLAG. April 25, 1938, No. 12369. Convention date, April 30, 1937. Drawings to'Specification. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] An alloy steel particularly for corrosionresistant hardened articles, such as razor blades and surgical instruments, and capable of being hardened to at least 650 Vickers hardness when quenched from a temperature between 925 and 1000‹ C., contains from 0À6 to 2À5 per cent carbon, 10 to 22 per cent chromium, 0À05 to 0À25 per cent nitrogen, and 0À2 to 6 per cent molybdenum, the remainder being iron with the normal percentages of manganese, silicon, phosphorus and sulphur. The molybdenum may be partly or wholly replaced by tungsten. The following alloy elements may also be present within the range of from 0À05 to 1À0 per cent of each; beryllium, boron, aluminium, titanium, vanadium, arsenic, selenium, zirconium, niobium, tin, antimony, tantalum, and uranium; cobalt and copper may be present within the range of from 0À05 to 5 per cent of each, the combined percentage of all such alloy elements being not greater than 10 per cent. The pressure in conjunction of nitrogen and molybdenum or tungsten in the alloy produces a lowering of the hardening temperature necessary to obtain the maximum hardness.
