Abstract

A hard alloy consists of 50-93 per cent of tantalum carbide or niobium carbide or both, 5-30 per cent of titanium carbide, and 2-20 per cent of one or more of the metals iron, nickel, and cobalt. When both tantalum and niobium carbides are present they may be in the form of mixed crystals. Up to 20 per cent of one or more of the carbides of molybdenum, tungsten, chromium, zirconium, and vanadium may also be present.
