Abstract

A sintered alloy for tools and other working implements, contains 1-14 per cent of zirconium carbide, or thorium carbide, or both, up to 25 per cent of a metal or metals of lower melting point, e.g. iron, cobalt, nickel, or manganese, and tungsten carbide, or tantalum carbide, or both, the carbides of the alloy consisting at least in part of a heterogeneous mixture. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises alloys containing up to 90 per cent of zirconium carbide, or thorium carbide, or both, one or more other carbides of high melting point such as carbides of tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, or titanium, and up to 25 per cent of a metal or metals of lower melting point. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
