Abstract

A sintered alloy consists of tantalum carbide and a metal binder material consisting substantially of cobalt and tungsten, the tantalum carbide being in excess of the binder material. Powdered tantalum carbide, prepared as described in Specification 388,090, tungsten and cobalt are pressed and sintered between 1300-1600 DEG C. The alloy may be used for tool tips or bits, being copper brazed to a steel shank. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 390,554.
