Abstract
Inserted cutters for rotary percussive drills are made of a sintered alloy of "hard metal" with 5-12 per cent of a softer metal, such as iron, cobalt, nickel or manganese. By the term "hard metal" is to be understood the borides, carbides, nitrides and silicides of the elements tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, boron or titanium. A specific example is 92 per cent tungsten carbide and 8 per cent cobalt.
