[Class 124] [Also in Group XXVII] A percussive tool comprises a cylinder and piston assembly of three diameters. The parts of intermediate diameter enclose the combustion chamber 7 of a two-stroke cycle internal combustion engine supplied with air or combustible mixture through a conduit 14 from the space beneath the piston-section 9 of largest diameter. This space is supplied from an engine-driven compressor unit 3. Percussive action is imparted through the piston-part 13 of smallest diameter. Part of the compressed air may be supplied direct to the combustion chamber. Carburation may be effected either in the transfer passage 14 or in the conduit 4. Ignition may be produced by the plug 16 when contacts are closed by a pressure-responsive device 20. When the prime-mover of the unit 3 is an internal-combustion engine its ignition arrangements may be associated with those of the cylinder 7. A setting device 17 enables the piston assembly to be positioned for the firing of a priming charge.
