[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 29, 1938.] [Class 106 (iii)] In a speed indicator having a permanent magnet 20M mounted on a shaft 201, and a coaxial metallic member 242 which tends to follow the rotating magnet in view of the eddy currents set up thereby, a plane disc 250 of magnetic material having its permeability decreasing with increase in temperature is utilized to shunt partially the magnet 20M. Changes of conductivity of the member 242 due to changes of temperature will then be compensated by changes in magnetic field. A soft iron armature 249 is mounted on the member 248 carrying the magnet 20M and surrounds the member 242.
