Abstract

[Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XI] In an electric torch of the flameproof type adapted for use in explosive atmospheres, the switching means comprise a rod-like operating- member 13 extending through a passage 18 through the torch casing 1 and fitting closely therein, with an annular flange or wall extend. ing downwardly from the head of the member 13 into a deep annular recess 23 containing a compressed helical spring 14 which tends to hold the member 13 in its upper and inoperative position, the arrangement being such that the switching means and adjacent parts of the casing co-operate to form a labyrinth gland and to produce a relatively long and tortuous path from the exterior to the interior of the casing. Depression of the member 13 is effected by a cam member 16 which slides in a guideway on the exterior of the casing, thereby causing a leaf-spring 10 to be pressed into contact with the reflector 2 and close the lamp circuit.
