Abstract
502,549. Oil engines; starting. KAMMER, G. S. June 12, 1937, No. 16383. Void. Convention date, June 12, 1936. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (v)] Air, compressed to the ignition temperature of the fuel by the working piston 2, is drawn during the injection of fuel, by a piston 3, through a passage 5 into a chamber 4 where combustion is effected. Towards the end of the expansion stroke the piston 3 forces the burnt gases in the chamber 4 through an exhaust port 7 in the cylinder 1. The air admission ports 10 are controlled by a valve 9 carried on the piston rod 8. A fuel injector 6 may spray fuel in the same or the opposite direction to the air current entering the chamber 4 or the fuel may be deposited in a recess in the passage 5. At starting the movement of the piston 3 is delayed to enable the engine to operate with a higher compression.
