[Class 106 (i)] To provide for the separate registration of the consumption of gas, electricity, &c. during different periods of time of the day, the meter is provided with a plurality of registering mechanisms and one or more idler gear members controlled directly by clockwork mechanism to transfer the operation of the meter mechanism from one register to another or to cause more than one of the registers to be operated simultaneously. As shown in Fig. 1, three registers a, band c are provided the register a being driven continuously from the shaft d of the meter mechanism. The registers b and c are adapted for alternative operative connection with the register a by an idler gear e mounted on a bar h slidable under the control of a clockwork mechanism m. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the meter shaft d carries a gear f in mesh with two idler gears p and p<1> mounted on a pivoted frame o that is controlled by the clockwork m to bring one or other of the idler gears into operative engagement with the driving gears n or n<1> of the two registers. According to the Provisional Specification the change over from one register to another may be controlled by the consumption or variation of the quantity being metered.
