[Class 106 (iv).] In a recording apparatus for measuring instruments means are provided for producing a numerical record of the quantity as well as a graphic record on a record-strip at definite time intervals. As shown applied to an electrical maximum demand meter the meter spindle 1, Fig. 1, drives a worm wheel 3 loose on a shaft 2 and connected to a gear wheel 7 by means of a frictional coupling constituted by a spring 4. The wheel 7 meshes with a wheel 6 integral with the sun gear 8 of a differential mechanism the other sun gear 9 of which is engaged through gearing and a frictional coupling to a gear wheel 32 controlled by a constant-speed motor (not shown). The planet gear 12 of the differential is mounted on a stub shaft secured to a spindle 14 carrying a drum 15 with an elevated recording spiral surface 16. A gear wheel 17 on the drum spindle through a countershaft 24 drives the units drum of a counting mechanism with numeral type drums 19, 20, 21. The setting of the surface 16 and numeral drums is recorded on a record strip 42 by a pressure member 36 and inking ribbon 39 reciprocated periodically by a connecting-rod 35 on a gear wheel 33 controlled by the speed motor. At the end of each measuring period the wheel 33 is actuated to effect an impression on the record strip whereupon the wheel 32 drives the spindle 14 in a direction to reset the drum 15 and counting mechanisms to zero. position. The record produced is as shown in Fig. 2 ; the numerical record may also be produced with a co-ordinate type of record.
