492,750. Valves. SERTILLANGE, M. A. Feb. 24, 1937, No. 5559. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1936. [Class 135] A hinged-flap valve C is operated by a toggle linkage A, B, from a transversely arranged shaft c inside the casing which is actuated externallv by a handle Land gearing P, S. An elastic joint or gasket j is arranged between the valve member and its seating which, on closure of the valve, allows the toggle members A, B to move slightly beyond the straight-line position against stops to maintain the closure. The actuation of the valve may be effected by fluid-pressure or electrically. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an arrangement in which two oppositely acting lift valve members co-operating with seats at opposite ends of the casing are actuated by a toggle system from a common transverse actuating shaft, and in a modification by worm and screw gearing. In another arrangement an electric motor is employed, for operating the valve mechanism through gearing and a clutch device, and in a still further arrangement the valve is actuated directly by a solenoid but is connected to a resilient toggle device to maintain it in its closed position. Various constructions of flexible metallic joints are also described. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
