Abstract
485,492. Latches. DUNCOMBE, A. T. Feb. 2, 1937, No. 2993. [Class 44] In a latch adapted to be mounted on the inside of a door and having a finger grip, narrower than the bolt, extending at rightangles through a slot in the door, or through a nozzle carried by the casing and passing through the slot in the door, the finger grip is formed integral with the bolt, for example, by die-casting, and is arranged inwardly of its rear end. The bolt 1, sliding in the casing 2, has a perpendicular extension 11 terminating in a finger grip 15, bearing surfaces on its nose 3, and semicircular ribs 6, 7 at its rear end, the middle of which is preferably cut away. Movement of the bolt in each direction is limited by the extension 11 abutting the ends of the slot 13 in the casing, and also by a rivet 27 passing through a slot 26 in the bolt. A spring 18 urges the bolt towards its shot position where it may be locked by a key operated slide 32 engaging a recess 22 behind its nose. The tubular casing 37 surrounding the extension 11 may be dispensed with.
