Abstract

524,590. Latches. TAYLOR, J. W. Feb 1, 1939, No. 3437. [Class 44] The bolt 2 of a latch is blocked in the slot and retracted positions by a slide 1 moving at right-angles to the direction of bolt movement and arranged so that its ends 5, 6 project from the casing to provide for operation of the slide by hand. The slide has recesses 9, 10 which are brought into or out of register with projections 11, 12 on the bolt. Member 1 slides between guides 4 on the casing, and is held against t accidental movement by a spring plunger 13 entering one or other of two recesses 14, 15 in one of the guides. One wall of each recess may be inclined and the other wall 16 or 17 disposed as in Fig. 7 to limit the movement of the slide. Alternatively, movement may be limited by reducing the ends 5, 6 of the slide which pass through the walls of the casing, as in Fig. 12. Various alternative arrangements of spring plunger or blade-spring catch are described for preventing accidental movement of the slide. In one form the slide is capable of lateral movement and is urged by blade-springs so that recesses in the slide engage the edges of the apertures in the casing through which the slide ends project. The Specification also describes various ways of forming the slide from two or more parts secured together. Fig. 12 shows one form in which the slide is in two parts 30, 31 secured end to end.
